A40 Over Bridge works begin with delays expected

Refurbishment works on the A40 Over Bridge at Gloucester have begun today (8 June), bringing significant changes to local traffic arrangements.

As part of the project, the slip road linking the A417 Over Causeway to the A40 westbound is now closed. This closure is expected to remain in place until March 2027.

Further disruption is planned later this month. From Monday 29 June, one lane will be closed in each direction on the A40 Over Bridge as works progress.

Motorists are being warned to expect increased congestion, particularly during peak travel times, as a result of these changes.

Service users who may be affected are being advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys when attending pre-arranged appointments, to minimise the risk of delays.
