Working with the Prince’s Trust to recruit new talent

Our Apprenticeship and Widening Access Team are delighted to be involved with the One Gloucestershire Integrated Care System (ICS) Apprenticeship Hub to trial an exciting pre-employment programme, which aims to support young people into entry-level roles within the county’s health and social care sector.

The Prince’s Trust’s Get Started programme is part of the Widening Participation Strategy – a joint initiative between Health Education England (HEE) and the Department for Health and Social Care, designed to support young people aged 16 to 30 into health and social care jobs.

The programme supports disadvantaged, work-ready people from diverse backgrounds, into jobs within the health and social care sector, benefitting organisations such as ours hugely, by enabling us to recruit a workforce reflective of the local community.

Get Started is a 2-5 day course supporting those who struggle with the job application process. Young people receive employability support, such as help with building their CVs, developing their interview skills, improving their confidence and learning more about the health and social care sector, and have the opportunity to interview for available roles.

Employers are invited to the final day of the programme when they are given the opportunity to interview young people interested in their vacancies and a career in their sector.

One Gloucestershire ICS will be hosting a three-day virtual event from 21-23 June 2022. Candidates will be sourced through local referral partners across Gloucestershire, including local charities, communities, education providers, the Department for Work and Pensions and care leavers.

Day 1: Understanding the Health and Care Sector and job roles on offer
Candidates select the vacancies they would like to apply for.

Day 2: Employability Workshops
Candidates receive employability support, such as help with building their CVs, developing their interview skills and improving their confidence.

Day 3: Employers’ interviews
