Community Training Nursing Team

We are a team of experienced registered nurses. We provide healthcare skills training in various education settings in Gloucestershire. We work alongside the Children’s Community Nursing Team, but we are a separate team.

Competency training courses

Our training courses comprise of three main elements:

  • Computer-based theory training and assessment
  • Practical teaching using manikins and demonstration equipment
  • Practical assessment of trainee’s competence to perform relevant care skills

Our training is skill-specific, rather than child-specific. This means that once trainees are competent in a skill, they can use this skill to provide care to multiple children who have the same relevant care needs.

We offer ‘refresher’ training on an annual basis for trainees who have previously completed training with us and are still required to provide the relevant care.

Training safety

When a trainee completes their practical assessments, we work closely with the trainee and the rest of their team to ensure accurate and safe care is given at all times. We supervise the trainee’s provision of the care to the relevant child/children until they have been assessed as competent in the care.
