IV Therapy

The Community IV Therapy Team is a countywide service which provides intravenous (IV) therapies to patients in their own homes, community hospitals and community outpatient clinics following referral by a GP, consultant or specialist nurse.

Our aim is to provide high quality, safe and evidence-based IV treatments for local people closer to home.

The team is made up of 11 highly specialised nurses and an administrator. The IV nurses deliver IV therapies in the community to patients at home, supported by the district nursing team.

The team is able to deliver a wide range of treatments either in clinic or at home. These include:

  • Planned blood transfusion
  • Iron infusions
  • Antibiotics
  • Bisphosphonates
  • Methylprednisolone
  • Therapeutic venesection

Primary locality clinics take place at The Dilke, North Cotswolds and Cirencester community hospitals, and Churchdown. Further clinics are planned in Lydney and Fairford community hospitals.
