Donation brightens Cirencester Hospital

Patients attending outpatient appointments in Cirencester will notice that the waiting room is looking much more inviting thanks to the donation of a huge, colourful painting by local artist Sue Bown to the Cirencester League of Friends.

Artist Sue, now based in Ampney Crucis, donated the joyous painting to the League of Friends so our patients and staff can enjoy it, as she explains:

“It is a pleasure to donate this painting to Cirencester Hospital League of Friends.  I created it while studying for my degree at Arts University Plymouth. Entitled Manifesto, it was the centrepiece of my degree show, reflecting my personal maxim for life: ‘find a way.’

“At 260cm by 120cm, I always felt it belonged in a public space where its vibrant colours could make a real impact. Cirencester Hospital is the perfect home—somewhere it might spread joy and lift the spirits of all who pass through.  I hope patients and staff alike enjoy and benefit from the painting.  If it brightens someone’s day, I am very happy”.

Cirencester League of Friends Chair Shiela Rees (pictured with the painting) is delighted with the beautiful artwork and the positive feedback they have had from staff and patients alike:

“The painting is a bright colourful addition to the outpatient waiting room, although finding a prominent space for this large abstract painting was challenging.

“We are delighted that it could be hung in an area used by so many visitors and enjoyed by everyone”.
