New display name format for emails – from 1 September

July 25, 2023

From Friday 1 September, the way the names of GHC colleagues is displayed in Outlook and MS Teams will be automatically updated so that surnames will be capitalised. The change has been delayed by a week to allow for the BMA walkouts later this month.

The new format will help distinguish first names from surnames; for example john.smith@ will change to John.SMITH@

The transition will be automatic, but the change may affect the way you search for names in your archived emails – for example, older emails sent from John Smith will appear in Outlook as ‘From Smith John’ before the change was made, however any emails sent from John after 25 August will appear as ‘From John SMITH.

Digital Support & Engagement Lead Jodie Spears:

“We want to assure you that this transition requires no action on your part. Our Digital Services team will handle all necessary updates, ensuring a seamless transition for everyone. We understand that you may have questions or concerns about this change. Our dedicated support team is available to assist you and address any inquiries you may have.”
