Trust praised for work with carers

Our Trust has been praised for its culture of co-production, advocacy, strong partnerships and high-quality information related to its work with carers.

Each year the Trust provides a report to the Carer’s Trust detailing its work on a set of quality improvements standards known as the Triangle of Care.

This sets out six key standards against which the Trust is measured: identification of carers, training, policies, defined leads, information and carer support.

In its feedback about our Triangle of Care report, which the Trust submitted at the end of February, the Carer’s Trust said: “This year’s TOC Annual Report clearly demonstrates a high‑quality, mature and forward‑moving programme of work, reflecting the enormous dedication, persistence and passion invested across GHC.

“Stand‑out areas of excellence include the deeply embedded culture of co‑production, the robust governance and senior advocacy structures, the flourishing Carer Champion network, the high‑quality Carer Information Handbooks and service‑specific leaflets, the strong partnerships with Gloucestershire Carers Hub, Gloucestershire Young Carers and the Parent Carer Forum and the exceptional engagement with over 80% of clinical teams through the TOC self‑assessment process.”

Overall, our report was described as “An outstanding piece of work.”

Organisations are rated from one to three stars for Triangle of Care accreditation – our Trust currently has a two-star rating, and our feedback says ‘the pathway towards three-start accreditation feels both realistic and richly deserved.’

Carer Lead Cathy Newman said: “Our feedback is a wonderful reflection on all staff across the trust who continue to embed a culture which supports all the families and carers that we may come into contact with.

“We will look carefully at the report recommendations for further areas of improvement, with the aim of progressing to three-start accreditation.”

Recommendations include collecting data on the number of carers who register for support following referral from Trust teams, improved data on engagement and impact of with carer support and adding carer support information into induction and training materials.
