Patients across Cirencester Hospital are now benefitting from a state-of-the-art Raizer 11 Lifting Chair, thanks to generous community donations to The Cirencester League of Friends.
The rechargeable £4,000 Lifting Chair fits into tight spaces to enable our nursing team to easily help patients who may have fallen and are unable to get up unaided.
As Cirencester League of Friends Chair Shiela Rees explains, we would not have been able to buy this chair without the support of three local organisations:
“We chose the chair as a specific item to enable local organisations to aim to raise money for and we are so grateful for all their hard work. Cirencester Town Band put on a Christmas Cracker concert in the Parish Church raising £1,230, Cirencester Car Show organisers then held their annual classic car show in Cirencester Market Place and raised £1,208, and the Corinium Players Guitar Ensemble held An Enchanting Evening of Music concert, raising £1,000 including proceeds from a raffle at Cirencester Golf Club. We want to thank everyone who attended, donated and took part.”
Ward Manager Karen Fawcett explains what a real difference this donation is making:
“It means we can easily and safely stand patients up from the floor. It means we don’t need to use a hoist, which is more intrusive and can be more frightening for the patient. It also means we can educate the patient and there is much less risk for the staff when helping the patient up. It is much better, and you can use it in smaller areas such as bathrooms, where many falls occur.”
This year, the League of Friends are hoping to raise funds to buy the hospital a Taurus Walking Frame for use on the wards. This is more than just an ordinary walking frame – the £1,830 machine is adjustable to any height, and is strong and stable and enable patients to move safely and easily on the ward as part of their rehabilitation.
Sheila is delighted to reveal that the organisers of the Cirencester Car Show are holding this event again on Sunday 21 June in Cirencester Market Place and will be sharing donations from the event to put towards the walking frame.
