Today sees Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in England and around the world celebrating the 8th annual National AHPs Day.
Recognised every 14 October, this is a special occasion for AHPs to come together and celebrate the significant impact they have on delivering high-quality care. It is also an opportunity to recognise the exceptional contribution our AHPs make to our health and care system, as well as raise awareness of the important roles they play, celebrate what they do, and highlight the varied career paths available.
Through adopting a holistic approach to healthcare, AHPs can help manage patients’ care throughout the life course, from birth to palliative care. Their focus is on prevention and improvement of health and wellbeing to maximise the potential for individuals to live full and active lives within their family circles, social networks, education, training and the workplace.
AHPs are the third largest clinical workforce in the NHS. Their practice is integral to most clinical pathways. They make a crucial contribution to treating, rehabilitating and improving the lives of patients, and are instrumental in delivering the NHS Long Term Plan.
The AHP family comprises 14 professions:
- Art therapists
- Orthoptists
- Drama therapists
- Osteopaths
- Music therapists
- Paramedics
- Chiropodists/podiatrists
- Physiotherapists
- Dietitians
- Prosthetists and orthotists
- Occupational therapists
- Radiographers
- Operating department practitioners
- Speech and language therapists
AHP Community of Practice Forum

To mark National Allied Health Professions Day, our Trust held its third annual AHP Community of Practice Forum yesterday (Monday 13 October).
The forum was an opportunity for our AHPs to connect, showcase good practice and celebrate achievements and successes.
