Allied Health Professions (AHPs) Day

Monday 14 October is Allied Health Professions (AHPs) Day. AHPs Day takes place every year in October. The day provides an opportunity to recognise the exceptional contribution our AHPs make to our health and care system, and to raise awareness of the 14 different professions and the varied career paths they offer.

AHPs are the third largest clinical workforce in the NHS. Made up of 14 unique and diverse professions, their practice is integral to most clinical pathways. They provide system-wide care to assess, treat, diagnose and discharge patients across social care, housing, education, and independent and voluntary sectors.

Through adopting a holistic approach to healthcare, AHPs can help manage patients’ care throughout the life course from birth to palliative care. Their focus is on prevention and improvement of health and wellbeing to maximise the potential for individuals to live full and active lives within their family circles, social networks, education, training and the workplace.

Quality and safety is the key theme for AHP Day 2024. By delivering care that is not only safe and of high quality, but also grounded in research evidence and innovation, AHPs can make a real difference. This approach helps address health and care inequalities and is in perfect harmony with the aspirations of the ‘people first’ and ‘optimising care’ areas of focus within our AHP strategy.

Let’s embrace AHPs Day 2024 as a celebration of these commitments.
