Armed Forces Week and Day 2025

This week we are celebrating Armed Forces Week, and will be marking Armed Forces Day this Saturday (28 June) – a national event to honour the Armed Forces community.

As a Veteran Aware Trust we are committed to driving improvements in NHS care for veterans, reservists, members of the Armed Forces and their families, and align our values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

As an employer, we also support the employment of veterans young and old, as well as service spouses and partners, and endeavour to support colleagues who choose to be members of the reserve forces.

In 2023 we were extremely proud and honoured to receive the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award from Wessex Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association in recognition of our commitment as an employer for defence personnel. Read more here>

Gloucester Community Networking

Our Trust has forged a strong alliance with Gloucester Community Networking – a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation run by British Army veteran Christopher Auker-Howlett. Its aim is to strengthen and build networks between people in need and potential resources within the diverse communities in Gloucestershire.

On the last Thursday of every month, GCN holds its Forces Hub at GL3 Community Hub in Churchdown, Gloucester. The Forces Hub welcomes anybody linked to the military – veterans, serving military, regulars, reservists, spouses, partners and families.

In this short video, Chris talks about Gloucester Community Networking and some of the projects it runs, including WORS (War Outreach in Schools) and its monthly Wellbeing Matters group.
