Montpellier Low Secure Unit in Gloucester hosted another successful friends and family event last Friday (8 December). This was an opportunity for service users to welcome their friends and family, introduce them to members of the multidisciplinary team and for everyone to enjoy a festive-themed buffet – all of which was planned, shopped for and prepared by the residents on Montpellier.
A wonderful evening was had by all. The event was organised by OT/EAP Team Lead Victoria Woodruff and Charge Nurse Sarah Watson – both of whom lead on championing the service user voice and carer engagement on Montpellier Unit.
Advice and support was available from Trust Carer Lead Cathy Newman, who provided invaluable resources and information throughout the evening, while Carer Independent Advocate Joy Weaver was on hand to meet and talk to friends and family.
Montpellier Low Secure Unit organises events throughout the year which are designed to improve engagement, empower those using the service and reduce stigma around mental ill health.
The evening received lots of really positive feedback from visitors, many of whom commented on how much they appreciated the opportunity to understand the secure unit environment, experience first-hand how and where their loved ones are being cared for, and to meet the people supporting them in their recovery journeys.
