Community respiratory nurses and physiotherapists in Gloucestershire have raised £250 for the British Lung Foundation with a bake sale and a raffle.
The team’s fundraising efforts took place during the charity’s Breathe Easy Week, and will contribute towards patient information leaflets, vital clinical training and investment in research.
The Community Respiratory service, run by Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, provides care to patients with lung diseases, such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and bronchiectasis, both in clinics and their own homes. The team can refer patients to British Lung Foundation (BLF) support groups, telephone helpline and online community groups.
In particular during this current ‘hot weather’, respiratory patients need to take additional precautions by keeping cool using fan therapy, pacing their activity and keeping hydrated.
Angela Wixey, Respiratory Nurse Specialist, said “Patients are very appreciative of the Respiratory service in Gloucestershire and the support the British Lung Foundation provide. We are delighted we could raise so much for the charity, as we know their services are so valuable.”
Over 10,000 people are diagnosed every week with lung disease. If you would like support or advice, you can contact the British Lung Foundation on 03000 303 555.
