Ceri, a Cheltenham Road Surgery based nurse with Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust, is hoping to raise more than £1,000 with a charity head shave inspired by a close family member.
Her sister Linda was diagnosed with a rare cancer (Neuroendocrine tumour) in 2011 and then with breast cancer last year. Linda is well supported by her family and Donna Norman, rare cancer specialist nurse. She is determined to fight cancer but now currently undergoing chemotherapy at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Ceri said: “My sister is strong but I wanted to be doing something more for her – being a nurse doesn’t feel like enough, so I decided to get my head shaved to raise money to help get rid of cancer and do it on Valentine’s Day to represent my love for my sister.”
Close friend Nicole Mason will be in charge of the clippers when Ceri is getting shorn.
She added: “This is the longest my hair has ever been – it’ll take months to grow back – so I’ve knitted myself a blue cap to wear to work.”
The clippings will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, a Hereford-based charity which provides wigs for children suffering hair loss.
