Due to ongoing refurbishment work the Minor Injuries and Illness Unit (MIIU) at Stroud is currently closed to walk-in patients.
We are still experiencing people arriving as walk-in patients and the Trust is asking potential visitors to the MIIU to book by calling NHS 111 or by calling the unit directly on 0300 421 8884.
Sadly, there have also been instances of visitors becoming aggressive or abusive towards NHS staff when they have become aware of these temporary changes to the service.
John Trevains, Director of Nursing at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are doing everything we can to publicise these temporary changes and the reason for them, and we will continue to do so.
“We understand that it can be frustrating for visitors at what may be a stressful time for them, but we also expect our staff to be treated with care and respect.
“The NHS is still under a lot of pressure from the ongoing impact of covid and our staff are working incredibly hard – so they greatly appreciate the patience and consideration that most people show them.”
The rebuild is part of a £2m project, including a full rebuild of Jubilee Ward, which will change the room layouts in order to:
- Create larger MIIU consulting and treatment rooms, separated assessment bays including one for isolation, a new MIIU children’s waiting and treatment area, new MIIU reception area and add air handling and temperature control to the unit as well as piped medical gases to the beds.
- Remodel Jubilee Ward bays with improved bed separation, toilet and shower facilities, create two larger single rooms with ensuite facilities, add a ward office and move the reminiscence room onto the ward, replace windows and add air handing and temperature control, and add piped medical gases to the beds.
Work is expected to be completed in early 2022.
